He Ruled For 52 Years Making Him The Longest On The Exalted Throne
The Alaafin of Oyo, a top Monarch in Yorubaland has joined his ancestors.
Alaafin Lamidi Adeyemi, the third from the Alowodu Ruling House, reportedly died in the late hours of Friday at the Afe Babalola University Teaching Hospital, Ado Ekiti.
Aged 83, he was the longest reigning Alaafin ever, ruling for 52 years.
Sources said his remains were brought to Oyo in the early hours of Saturday and traditional rites began immediately.
The Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, was at the time of filing this report expected to make an official announcement upon receiving the report of the monarch’s passing from the Bashorun of Oyo, Yusuf Akinade, who will lead Oyo before a new Alaafin is installed.
