A group under the aegis of Citizens Network for Peace and Development, has called on President Mohammadu Buhari to endorse former President, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan as the All Progressive Party (APC)’s Flag-Bearer for next year’s General election.
The group made their position known while addressing newsmen in Abuja on Monday.
This comes as the plot to draft the former president into the 2023 Presidential race thickens.
The National Coordinator of the group, Mr. Okorie Raphael called on Dr. Jonathan to quickly throw his hat into the ring on the platform of the APC.
APC has been in the middle of the storm after it pegged it’s nomination form for presidential position at One Hundred Million Naira (100,000,000).
This has attracted criticisms from various quarters that have concluded that it was a manifestation of the high level of corruption in the party
According to those criticizing this, the salary of a president is far below 100 million, implying that elected public officers from APC will resort to stealing public funds to cover their expenses.
Felix Morka, the APC’s national publicity secretary had announced the fees for nomination forms on Wednesday, April 20, 2022, after the party’s National Executive Council meeting.
He explained that the nomination form would go for N70 million while the expression of interest form costs N30 million.
Some of the aspirants contesting for presidents in the party include Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, former Governor of Lagos, Bola Tinubu, Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi, Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi, Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, and Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige.
