The West African Examinations council, WAEC, says it is liasing with the Inspector General of Police and various state governments to provide adequate security for the conduct of this year’s West African Senior School Certificate Examination for School candidates so as to ensure that the examination is conducted under a well secured and safe environment.
The Head of National Office of WAEC in Nigeria, Mr. Patrick Areghan Areghan announced this at a newsbriefing in Lagos.
He said that this was necessary to avoid a recurrence of what happened during the conduct of the examination last year in some parts of the South East when the conduct of some papers for candidates were disrupted due to insecurity.
The WAEC boss however, called on Parents and guardians to warn their wards against involving in all forms of examination Malpractices so as not to be sanctioned.
Mr. Areghan also warned some Supervisors and teachers always out to conive with students to cheat in examinations to desist from such act or face the Music.
He however, gave the assurance that as Nigerian students join their counterparts in other member counties of WAEC in sitting this year’s West African Senior School Certificate Examination for School candidates, WAEC Nigeria had set necessary machinery in place to conduct a hitch free examination.
Mr. Areghan announced that a total of One Million, Six Hundred and Seven Thousand, Nine Hundred and Seventy-five candidates registered for this year’s examination.
