Buhari confers highest national honour on Tinubu

Eid-el-Fitr

Nigeria’s outgoing President , Muhammadu Buhari, has conferred the National Honour of Grand Commander of Order of Federal Republic, (GCFR) on the President-elect Bola Tinubu.

Buhari conferred the honour on Tinubu at a high profile event in Abuja on Thursday.

The GCFR honour comes as part of the Investiture Ceremony for the President-Elect and his Vice, Kashim Shettima.

Buhari who has been widely criticised for conducting a flawed election in favour of Tinubu, had vowed that no court in the country will stop his handing over to the President-elect on May 29.

Buhari had been under immense pressure, catching up with the array of events lined out for the inauguration, coupled with wrapping up official duties of his office.

The President was joined by Secretary to the Government of the Federation Boss Mustapha; the Minister of Defense, Major General Salihi Magashi; the Chief of Defense Staff General Lucky Irabor and the Service Chiefs at the close of the Regimental Dinner organised in his honour by the Armed Forces at the newly commissioned Nigerian Armed Forces Officers’ Mess, Asokoro, Abuja on Tuesday.

The President commissioned the new Nigerian Customs Service headquarters buildings in Maitama District of the FCT, before virtually inaugurating six other projects across the country.

He also presided over another extraordinary Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting from midday till late Tuesday evening, before heading out for the Regimental Dinner.

“Please, I will like to digress a bit from the prepared speech. I apologise most sincerely for keeping you waiting for about at least half an hour, actually I can hardly cope with the pressure and I’m desperately looking forward for the next six days,” he said.
