Conducting an event on public roads without due governmental clearance is an offense liable to punishment in Lagos State. This is the reason some individuals including the celebrant, event planner, musician and others were arrested on Saturday, 19th October, 2024 by the Lagos State Government as announced by the State’s Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab on via his Facebook page.
He said they were “obstructing traffic and creating an environmental nuisance”.
The individuals arrested are: Omolara Ajetumobi – Event Planner; Ogundare Olubunmi – Celebrant; Ayodele Busuyi – Musician; Owoeye Adedayo – Sound Engineer and . Akinola Akinkunmi – Vendor
According to the Commissioner, “The suspects were arrested for blocking Raymond Njoku Road in Southwest, Ikoyi during a birthday celebration. They will be tried in court in accordance with the relevant laws of the State.”
He added that “The Lagos State Government reiterates that no one is above the law and will not be permitted to disregard State regulations.”
