PDP Sends Candidates To INEC As Replacement For Sacked Gov. Umahi And Deputy

Following the sack of the Ebonyi State Governor, Mr. David Umahi and his deputy, Kelechi Igwe for defecting to the All Progressive Congress, APC, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has asked the Independent Electoral Commission, INEC, to recognise Mr. Iduma Igariwey and Fred Udogwu as governor and deputy governor of the state.

Addressing a world press conference at the PDP Secretariat in Abuja, the PDP National Chairman, Dr. Iyorchia Agu said the nomination of Igariwey and Udogwu was in line with the judgement of the High Court that removed the governor, his deputy and 17 House of Assembly members in the state for abandoning the party that brought them to office.

Dr. Ayu, while commending the Nigerian Judiciary said the ruling would bring order to the political space and check the issue of political rascality and stealing of mandates.

Gov. Umahi, his deputy and the 17 lawmakers were elected on the PDP platform in 2016 and again in 2019, but defected to the APC on November 17,2020, citing “injustice done to the South East”.

But a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja , presided over by Justice Inyang Ekwo, yesterday ordered Gov. Umahi and his deputy to immediately vacate office.

The court also sacked the 17 lawmakers of the Ebony state House of Assembly who defected with the governor and his deputy to the APC.

The court further ordered the INEC to receive names of candidates from the PDP to replace Mr. Umahi and Igwe
