Prof (Mrs) Nnenna Oti, the Presiding Officer of Abia State in the just concluded Governorship and House of Assembly Election, has remained the talk of the town after she demonstrated uncommon bravery and uprightness by not compromising the results of the election in-spite of enormous pressure mounted on her by the powers that be.
The Vice chancellor of Federal University of Technology, Owerri who hails from Ebonyi state is being celebrated and idolized by the people for protecting the mandate given to the Abia State Governor -Elect , Dr. Alex Oti by his People.
Her statement during the protracted collation of results from Obingwa that delayed the declaration of Alex Oti as Governor-Elect has become an anthem among supporters of Labour Party and indeed all men and women of goodwill in Nigeria.
The INEC Presiding Officer in Abia State had stated as follows,
” I’m Professor Nnenna Oti from Afikpo, I am the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology Owerri, The people’s mandate must stand.
“I have spent all my adult life in pursuit of the ideals of good governance. We shall stand by the these principles.
”The pastor in me (she is a Pastor with the RCCG) and the mother in me will not permit me to do anything that will adversely affect the future of our children. I shall do right by God and by man!”
To everyone’s surprise, she said that while INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu personally called her and gave her directives on guidelines to follow in ensuring that Abia governorship election results were collated based on some criteria, she had decided on her own that the will of Abia voters would not be subverted under her watch.
At that point, she asked the Administrative Secretary to read the message she said that came from the INEC headquarters Abuja.
Celebrating Professor Nnenna Oti , a social media user wrote on Facebook , “
She is a true definition of Professor”, as called on Abians to give her a golden award.
Countless number of persons have shared similar posts on Facebook, urging that the FUTO VC be specially recognised, celebrated and awarded as a way of promoting transparency and accountability the country’s electoral process.
